Earlier this month, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) announced the finalists for the 2016 Canadian Green Car of the Year and Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year awards, as part of the 31st Annual Canadian Car of the Year awards program.
On March 22nd, the winners for both categories will be announced. But just because there can be only one winner for each category doesn't mean that the other contenders are anything to sneeze at.
Green Cars to Consider
In the Green Car category, the top three contenders are the Chevrolet Volt, Honda Civic and Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. If you're looking for a car that is more environmentally friendly, these cars may be worth checking out.
- Chevrolet Volt - Starts at $39,990
- Honda Civic - Starts at $15,990
- Hyundai Sonata Hybrid - Starts at $43,999
Green Utility Vehicles of Interest
The finalists for the Green Utility Vehicle category are the Honda HR-V, Hyundai Tuscon (Fuel Cell Electric/FCEV) and Mazda CX-3. For larger families that need more space, consider one of these vehicles for a smaller environmental footprint.
- Honda HR-V - Starts at $20,690
- Mazda CX-3 - Starts at $20,695
- Hyundai Tuscon FCEV - Not yet available in the Canadian market.
