The 2016 Honda Civic was recently named the Canadian Car of the Year by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). The Civic would also be an excellent choice for someone with less than perfect credit.
Honda Civic Voted Canadian Car of the Year
AJAC announced the winners of their annual awards during media days at the Toronto auto show on February 11th. The 2016 Honda Civic won top honours as the Canadian Car of the Year, and it was also named the "Best New Small Car."
The Civic beat out the Volkswagen Golf R and the Volkswagen Golf Sportwagon in the Car of the Year category. Meanwhile, the Mazda CX-3 won AJAC's Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year award.
Over 70 auto journalists in AJAC met in Clarington, Ontario last October to test and evaluate over 150 vehicles. In the event that's dubbed "TestFest," these journalists engaged in four straight days of test drives and evaluations to determine the winners.
Each vehicle underwent a stringent testing and evaluation process. To ensure fairness, each journalist drove vehicles in the same category back-to-back on the same day to make sure that they were tested under the same conditions.
In all, 1,911 test drives were taken and over 110,000 data points were collected. The journalists then voted for their favourite vehicle in each category.
As part of the testing, the journalists took the vehicles on public roads to get a real-world driving experience. As such, potential car buyers can be assured that the results are very relevant to them.
